Sephora Venites was born in Brazil and began her career in the public eye at an early age, entering the modeling world at thirteen. Her initial work in front of the camera soon led to acting roles in television commercials, paving the way for her eventual transition into film. Her dedication to the craft quickly became evident, allowing her to take on increasingly complex roles and gain recognition across various media.
In cinema, Sephora Venites made a notable appearance in Andrew Arthur's acclaimed short romantic comedy, Love at First Swipe, showcased at Cannes Short Film Corner’s Cinéma de Demain—a significant honor recognizing promising talent in the film industry. Her filmography further includes Liquid Love (2018), an indie feature by Vitor Steinberg inspired by Zygmunt Bauman’s reflections on modern relationships, where Sephora’s portrayal brought nuance to the theme of love in a digital world. She also starred in Matthew John’s contemporary adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler, where her performance was marked by both intensity and authenticity, capturing the complexities of Ibsen’s timeless characters.
In addition to her work in independent film, Sephora appeared in the popular television series Mr. Selfridge (2013), showcasing her ability to captivate audiences across diverse genres and contexts among both small and large screens.
Beyond her work in film, Sephora has also appeared in renowned commercial campaigns, including Smirnoff’s “Dress Up, Stay In,” directed by Rob Fletcher, and Santander’s high-energy “Daily Race,” featuring Formula 1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel. Her performances in these campaigns showcase her versatility and ability to capture audiences across both artistic and commercial platforms, establishing her as a dynamic and multifaceted talent in the industry.
On stage, Sephora worked with prominent Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour in the globally celebrated White Rabbit, Red Rabbit tour in 2013 at São Paulo’s Theatre Sesc Vila Mariana. The play, known for its unique format where actors encounter the script live on stage, showcased her adaptability and courage as a performer. Further expanding her theatrical repertoire, she participated in the experimental rehearsals for Blind Hamlet with the Actors Touring Company in London in 2014, contributing to a bold and thought-provoking production.
That same year, Sephora debuted as a television presenter, hosting Cena Londres, a Brazilian program produced by Bis, part of the Globo Group. The show brought Sephora into the heart of London’s vibrant music scene, where she interviewed and covered performances by influential artists such as Cut Copy, Metronomy, The Hives, Molotov Jukebox, The Horrors, Little Dragon, Chet Faker, Anne Clark, Peggy Sue, Simian Mobile Disco, Atari Teenage Riot, Au Revoir Simone, and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Her role as host underscored her ability to engage with diverse artists and her knack for bringing stories to life.
Beyond acting and presenting, Sephora is an accomplished interdisciplinary visual artist. Her creative practice spans performance, video, painting, photography, and technology, embodying a forward-thinking approach that challenges conventional boundaries. She earned a degree in costume design and styling from Barcelona's Institut Català de la Moda in 2007, equipping her with a profound understanding of visual aesthetics and storytelling. In collaboration with photographers Jonas Tucci, Nick Delaney, and Paul Winstone, Sephora crafted a fine art photography series inspired by the life and legacy of Frida Kahlo, merging homage with her unique creative vision.
Sephora’s art boldly merges traditional techniques with modern technologies, questioning the very nature of art in a way reminiscent of the Dada movement. Her work reflects a philosophical exploration of identity in the digital age, a time when originality often yields to a “copy-paste” culture. Through her creative tapestry of media, movements, and techniques, Sephora offers an authentic visual language filled with vibrant chromatic colors, inspired by the lush Brazilian landscapes of her childhood. This distinct combination of influences and her personal heritage imbue her work with depth and timeless relevance.
